Mixed Emotions

Sitting here now in our beautiful hotel in Varanasi playing card games on the lawn in a cool, quiet and peaceful environment it seems unfathomable that less than 24 hours ago we were in one of the craziest places I've ever been, Howrah Train Station. The chaos of the station perfectly encapsulated Kolkata. From the moment we arrived it was a constant barrage of smells, sounds and sights that certainly made for an entertaining week if not a very tough one.

Other guys have mentioned the amazingly happy people but it truly cannot be appreciated until you see the conditions they are happy in. It's pretty inspiring and definitely changes your perspective on your own life. Another notable thing to mention about Kolkata is the way the city seems to work together as one with incredible efficient inefficiency. Many things in Kolkata are done in very slow exhaustive ways but everyone knows how it will happen and are happy with it that way. No one complains and the city chugs onwards. Kolkata truly was a learning experience that has changed all of the group. Looking forward to the Ganges tomorrow and the rest of the trip.
