Something I have found interesting over the past few weeks in India is the influence of the Muslim Indians. In comparison they are a small percentage of the overall population (they make up only 10%), yet they seem to play a large part in this crazy country.
Every morning we are woken by the call on speakers from the Mosque signalling the time to prayer. This also happens at other points throughout the day. Somehow nobody seems to take any notice of this and continue unperturbed.
More important than this, however, is the past political power wielded by Muslim rulers. Somehow, during the Mughal Empire, they managed to unite a country full of Hindus behind them and command a lot of respect. Muslims were responsible for all the amazing sights we have seen since Agra, which is astounding. They created the Taj, the mosques and the mausoleums. So much money and power!
This 10% is doing its bit to be noticed by the masses.
