Jaipur has been, without a doubt, my favourite city so far. The people here seem to have a natural charisma and having them come up to me for a conversation rather than to sell/beg was a very welcome change from what we've experienced in other cities. The architecture here is also unique with the old city being surrounded by huge pink gates and walls but most noticeably Amber Fort which being placed up in the mountains I thought was up there with the Taj as a spectacle.
However one thing has really stuck out and made Jaipur the experience what it has been the auto-rikshaw drivers. The first thing my driver, Ishman told me when we got in was "I am Muslim but don't worry not terrorist". It's sad that he felt he needed to dispel this common western misconception. What followed was a brilliant interaction with a top class guy. Blasting Spice Girls, Santana and Vengaboys as well as being pulled over by the local cops, a demonstration of how to "do rikshaw with no hands!" have all been highlights. I doubt any of the guys will easily forget doing 70km/hr down a hill with a driver whose sobriety was questionable at best.
