Market Yarns

Yesterday while shopping in the Kolkata markets, I had my first experience of dishonesty in India. A shop keeper claimed that he was paying 10 crores per month in rent to keep open a small sports stall. To put this into perspective, this is 10 million rupees or 500,000 NZ dollars. The shop keeper's name was Darren.
Despite the cost of the rent, the owner still managed to show off his brand new 30,000 rupee smart phone and pose for photos with the boys. He then proceeded to attempt to sell cheap knock-off sporting goods to us, repeating words such as "good quality", "real" and "direct replica". He was a real piece of work.
