After seeing the Ganges by boat on Tuesday morning a group of us returned to the Ganges again in the afternoon to see what it was like to observe the Ganges by foot. This turned out to be a very different experience from the morning.
We walked to the cremation area where we met a local man who took us within a couple of metres of one of the cremation spots which was a quite a unique experience. We also sat and watched the night-time local performance which was a big hit with tourists as well as some of the locals; I didn't quite know what was going as it just involved a whole lot of burning candles and people ringing bells.
As we headed back to the hotel we were in the hands of the craziest and most relaxed rickshaw drivers of all time who came within inches of clipping nearly every cyclist we drove past. I used to think Auckland roads were dangerous for cyclists but they are nothing compared to these roads.
