Yesterday we went to ASHA, an NGO which helps children in slums get a better education. I felt this NGO was unique because children held big roles. One boy who was around 11 had the job of organizing meetings and writing up the minutes for them. Another girl was in charge of helping pregnant women in slums. It made me think how different children are in India compared to New Zealand. In New Zealand kids generally don't have too many responsibilities, they may have homework to do or projects to make but in India there are kids who are responsible for providing money for the family, or finding food for them to eat.
I think this shows children are capable of big things, they just need the opportunity to show it.
